Administrative Assistant

 

The following shelter staff positions are part time and seasonal:
Kitchen staff: $12 per hr., 8:00pm – 11:00pm
Overnight Staff: $12 per hr., 12:00am – 8:00am
Opening Staff: $12 per hr., 9:00 pm – 12:00am


Job Descriptions

Administrative Assistant
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (1 hr unpaid lunch)
Starting Rate: $12 per hr.

At Craig’s Doors, we all work together to provide safe and respectful services to individuals living on the streets of Amherst.  As an Administrative Assistant you would be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including:

  • Typical office routines: Organizing office files, data entry, answering phone calls and e-mails, tidying the office
  • Special Projects: drafting letters and grants, uploading job/internet postings to various websites, updating the Craig’s Doors website, proof reading reports.
  • HR: maintaining paper and digital employee records, responding to minor HR concerns, ensuring policies are up do date and employee records are accurate, entering payroll data
  • Fundraising and Development: Maintaining donor records, preparing bank deposits, preparing thank you letters, calling to thank donors for their support.

A candidate should have excellent writing skills, manage time well, a high WPM count, be well organized, detail oriented, proper phone etiquette and professionalism, and a willingness learn and change with the organization.

 

Staff Manager
8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
$15/hour
 Mangers are responsible for overseeing 1-3 staff members, 3-15 volunteers, and 22-34 guests a night. We are looking for highly motivated, fast thinking, attentive individuals who can navigate high-stress situations. A manager’s primary responsibility is to oversee and respond to shelter activity. Candidates will be expected to be able to direct both staff and volunteers to ensure an efficient, productive shift. Key skills we value are: adaptivity, attention to detail, oral and written communication skills, time management, patience, levelheadedness, and ambition.
 Kitchen Staff 

8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
$12/hour

We are looking for dependable and creative kitchen staff to ensure our guests have a healthy meal each night.

Nightly kitchen shifts include: preparing and serving dinner for up to 35 people, management of kitchen volunteers, routine kitchen clean up, ensuring ServSafe standards, food inventory, and possible weekly food pickups from local colleges and dining businesses, including the Hatfield Food Bank.

Certification or re-certification for ServSafe provided for qualified candidates. Employment depends on a passing score.

 

Opening Staff   
9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
$12/hour

The Opening Staff will welcome guests and seek to maintain a peaceful and smooth registration process. This includes setting up the shelter before opening, directing volunteers, registering guests, record keeping, supervising smoke breaks, resolving conflicts, and pitching in wherever needed.

 

Overnight Staff
12:00 a.m-8:00 a.m.
$12/hour

During the Overnight shift, staff must remain awake and vigilant each night. This is the most important position at the Shelter. We need individuals who are willing and able to stay awake from midnight until 8am, alert and able to handle any issues that arise. Responsibilities include routine upkeep of the shelter, organization, conversing with guests, breaking down the shelter in the morning, and monitoring the overall safety of Craig’s Place. Some heavy lifting required.

 

All Craig’s Doors Staff will be expected to record nightly occurrences in our shift log. Candidates should be punctual, proactive, and passionate. We want your unique experiences and perspectives to shine when building your relationships with guests!
