Craig’s Doors Open positions

The following shelter staff positions are part time and seasonal –
October 1st – May 2nd.
Hours are between 8:30 p.m. at night to 8:00 a.m. in the morning.

Kitchen staff: $12 per hr.
Shelter Manager: $15 per hr.
Overnight Staff: $12 per hr.
Opening Staff: $12 per hr.

Job Descriptions

Staff Manager

8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
Mangers are responsible for overseeing 1-3 staff members, 3-15 volunteers, and 28 guests each night. We are looking for highly motivated, fast thinking, attentive individuals who can navigate high-stress situations. A Manager’s primary responsibility is to oversee and respond to shelter activity. Candidates will be expected to be able to direct both staff and volunteers to ensure an efficient, productive shift.
Key skills we value are: reliability, leadership, adaptability, timeliness, attention to detail, staying calm under pressure, compassion, ability to address and inquire about sensitive information, excellent oral and written communication skills, multi-lingual capabilities, basic familiarity with Microsoft Office, time management, the ability to work independently or with a group,
Kitchen Staff 

8:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.

We are looking for dependable and creative kitchen staff to ensure our guests have a healthy meal each night.

Kitchen Staff will prepare and serve dinner for our guests each night; this includes preparation, cooking, and clean up according to ServSafe standards. Using a combination of donated food and our own supplies, staff will create nutritious, hearty meals accessible to all. Additionally, staff are expected to oversee anywhere from 1-5 volunteers, and maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen space.

Certification or re-certification for ServSafe provided for qualified candidates. Employment depends on a passing score.


Opening Staff   
9:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

The Opening Staff will welcome guests and seek to maintain a peaceful and smooth check-in process. This includes setting up the shelter before opening, directing volunteers, signing in guests, record keeping, maintaining communication with our partner agencies, supervising smoke breaks, resolving conflicts, and pitching in wherever needed.


Overnight Staff
12:00 a.m-8:00 a.m.

During the Overnight shift, staff must remain awake and vigilant each night. We need individuals who are willing and able to stay awake, alert and ready to handle any issues that arise. Responsibilities include routine upkeep of the shelter, organization, breaking down the shelter in the morning, maintaining a timely schedule of activities, and monitoring the overall safety of Craig’s Place. Some heavy lifting required.
